The carpenter’s square has long been an indispensable tool in Japanese construction and a mark of a master craftsman’s skill and technique. It’s a dynamic measurement tool with uses that go beyond merely scribing a line. This Shinwa Carpenter’s Square features a metal 90/45 degree stopper, so you can use it for marking parallel to an edge or at 45 degrees, as a caliper, or turn the stopper the other way around and use it as a height gauge. The stopper is die-cast with an etched vernier scale, a captive locking screw and a copper wear plate to protect the edges of the square. Additional valuable details include a hard chrome matte finish and a stainless steel body hardened to Hv320+ for the perfect balance of stability and springiness, with no worries about rusty fingermarks. It can be used like a framing square, with one leg hanging over an edge and its face acting as a stop. It also has the benefit of deeply etched imperial and metric graduations as well as scales on the inside and outside of both faces.
