Araracanga Dimensional Lumber

Araracanga (Aspidosperma megalocarpon), also called Volador, is a hardwood with a straight grain and a uniform medium texture. The heartwood ranges in color from golden yellow to reddish brown and tends to darken with age. It’s a heavy wood that is easy to work with and produces good results, though it has an above-average blunting effect on cutters. Glues, turns, carves and finishes well. Araracanga is not listed in CITES Appendices but is reported by the IUCN as being near threatened. It does not meet the Red List criteria as endangered but is close to qualifying and may do so in the near future. Please measure each piece carefully before staring any project. Cut from quality kiln0dried stock. The grain runs with the longest dimension. Thin stock is sawn to +/- 1/8″ of the listed size. Carving and turning blanks are sawn to +/- 1/4″ of the listed size. Large blocks are sawn to =/- 1/4” of the listed size. Smaller blocks are sawn to +/- 1.8” of the listed size. Spindle stock or stock that is 1-1/2″- 2″ wide is sawn to +/- 1/8″ of the listed size.
